A Surreal Moment

Bing Crosby, the leading star of the first half of the 20th century, met and performed with David Bowie on a TV Christmas Special recorded early during a Bing concert tour in London. Bing had never heard of David Bowie, though David Bowie was very well known in America. Nevertheless, David fitted the bill and was invited to perform on the show. David was said to have jumped at the chance but the potential audience may have had something to do with it.   Both Bing and David Bowie performed well and in modern terminology created a moment for both sets of their fans and the worldwide audience of the show.

Bing was reported to have said that he enjoyed the meeting and felt that David Bowie was a fine clean-cut kid (30 yrs old actually) and would make a fine actor if he wanted.

David Bowie chose the song "Peace On Earth" to suit his voice, and Bing sung "The Little Drummer Boy", which they sang simutaneously.

Sadly Bing did not see the performance go public.  Bing died on a spanish golf course a month after the show's production.
