Valentines Day
and a ricochet of terrifying knowns
strange desires galore
in all the wrong keys

for Valentine's Day
I do not want the same
old gift of needy drums
from the endings of last year
beating in my ears

or to buy another cheap bright colour
from the corner with the saxophone
standing all alone
or to be someone's
fragmented afterthought

at the vilified midnight
when the
day is over
and over again

in all the wrong keys
maybe I just need
to buy a new piano
